顾明哲追问杨燕当年的情况，何君步步紧逼问她2014年回来参加了母亲的葬礼，然后换了假身份生活，到底是有隐瞒什么。杨燕看着他们，木讷地说嫌疑人不是已经被抓了吗？顾明哲告诉她父亲在不久便自杀了。杨燕情绪有些激动，她想起当年案发后，自己受到李锋的胁迫，为了保命她不得不做了伪证。李锋要求他指认周国坤，之后便出国不要回来。但是这一切，她不能告诉何君和顾明哲。在他们的不断紧逼中，她只要夺路而逃了。当年周国坤因为身体原因，被批准保外就医。卢小北当年案发时虽然到超市购物，但是他回家时正好看到了凶手逃跑，他的揶像机却拍下了案发的全过程。卢小北犹豫再三，将摄像机放在了周国坤家门口，他只为了寻求心里的安宁。那天案发后，刘康生就来到他的家里，让他对警察做伪证指认周国坤，并特别叮嘱要说明案发时窗户是关闭的。他知道这件事情的利害关系，为了自保，他只能做这么多，然后便拉着箱子离开了这里。周国坤在摄像机里，看到了案发的全过程。他到警局门口等曹征，却被告知曹征出警，便要到他的手机号码。曹征接到周国坤的电话后，避开所有的同事后，才仔细询问起他，他让周国坤在家等自己，这趟任务完毕便会去找他。这次出警中，何君受到了罪犯的袭击，曹征出手制服了罪犯，自己却受了伤。在去医院的救护车上，何君吓的哇哇哭了起来，她怕曹征会死，她大胆向他表白，曹征有些羞怯地哭笑不得。时间再次回到2018年，顾明哲查阅父亲案件的卷宗，他再次想起父亲倒在血泊中的情景，他看到当年判定父亲自杀的是张警官，便辗转找到张警官，问他是否发现案件中有可疑的地方，他不明白当年为什么没有尸检。张警官回复他尸检得家属同意。顾明哲想起来，父亲死亡，母亲十分悲痛，她拒绝了警察尸检的要求，她不愿再在丈夫身体上动刀子。张警官告诉他，刘康生也来找过他。顾明哲十分疑惑，刘康生到底要向自己传达什么信息，难道是要告诉父亲的真正死因吗？他来到与刘康生约定的中心医院，这也是父亲被判死亡的医院。他凭着记忆中那天电话中传递的信息，一步一步地找到了备注化验区。他明白父亲十五年前的血液样本肯定没保留，但是化验结果应该是有保留的。顾明哲先和护士亮出刘康生的照片，护士告诉他前几天就是他来查询周田坤的化验结果。护士告诉顾明哲，他父亲的血液化验出有安定的成份，普通人有这个剂量便可能失去意识。顾明哲明白了父亲不是自杀，是被人杀害了。而当年，周国坤正在家里焦急地等着曹征，他不知道此时曹征躺在医院的病床上。曹征一觉醒来，发现何君扒在旁边的桌子上睡着了，想起他在救护车上可笑的告白。这时他听到了电话铃声，马上走到了房间外面接听电话。顾明哲在电话中请求曹征救自己的父亲周国坤，父亲是在12月19日被人杀害，然后伪装成自杀现场。曹征听后不敢有丝毫的耽搁，穿上衣服立即赶了过去。
