阿巴亥尽心尽力照顾病中的努尔哈赤，努尔哈赤要阿巴亥好好活着，看着他打下来的这片江山。阿巴亥担心自己的儿子年龄还小将来一定会受人欺负。努尔哈赤让她放心，还有代善和皇太极。阿巴亥做了可口的饭菜分成两份分别送给了代善和皇太极。代善欣然接受，皇太极却把饭菜送了回来并告诉了努尔哈赤。努尔哈赤十分气愤质问了阿巴亥，是不是也希望他们两个照顾她，难道我真的老到照顾不了自己的妻子吗？努尔哈赤气急之下把阿巴亥打入了冷宫。皇太极带着多尔衮和多铎去见代善，要他去为阿巴亥求情。代善听说努尔哈赤盛怒，吓得死活也不肯去，皇太极主动出面去见努尔哈赤，努尔哈赤并不是真的气愤阿巴亥，而是因为自己的确是老了，他不想丢下自己辛苦打下的江山，他不想死。他回忆着自己爱过和爱他的女人，黯然神伤默默地落下眼泪。他向皇太极诉说着心事，皇太极顺从地倾听着。皇太极很满意自己的表现，他得到了父亲的信任，自己的两大对手又先后得罪了努尔哈赤，他成功在望。他极力控制着自己对德因泽的感情，他不愿意因为德因泽酷似东哥，而与父亲产生摩擦。代善又因为兴建新宫殿财政紧张，向各旗要钱，与阿敏发生了争执，皇太极沉默不语，五大臣连连叹息。朝堂上代善和莽古尔泰吵起来，五大臣劝阻，与其争执，代善想起褚英立刻露出了笑容向五大臣赔礼。但是为时已晚，众人心中已经把皇太极当成新的储君。
