大嫂劝五哥，年纪不小了，应该娶亲了，五哥说出他的心上人是三妹。大嫂答应立即找媒婆去郭家说亲。媒婆孙阿娘(马钰虹 饰)陪着林家大嫂到郭家给五哥和三妹提亲，郭老板(罗京民 饰)把三妹关在家里正在气头上，立即表态不同意三妹出嫁，按顺序先嫁大妹和二妹。二妹给大嫂送茶，大嫂一眼就看好了二妹的端庄大方。大妹晚上悄悄告诉三妹，林家大嫂来为五哥和三妹提亲了，但父亲被一口回绝了，三妹听后倍感失落。郭老板对三妹疼爱尤佳。所以他认为三妹必需嫁个真正的大户。再者将三妹嫁出去后有个男人管着必将会有所收敛，于是他便托人着手为三妹找人家。郭太弟弟为三妹找了一户方圆百里顶尖的大地主家做三姨太的婚事，郭老爷有些不情愿让郭太弟弟暂时搁下。西门镇街上红旗招展，新四军进了西门镇。他们到处贴标语、发传单，开始征兵。五哥听着新四军的宣传，看着传单，恩纯来到他身边，告诉国共合作共同抗日，共产党成立了新四军，积极鼓励参加投身革命。告诉五哥，共产主义就是风雨过后天边的彩虹。五哥似懂非懂。三妹得知新四军征兵的消息后便要出门，郭老板不许，在三妹一再坚持下，只好让大妹寸步不离地看着三妹才许上街。街上三妹碰到了五哥，三妹要五哥一起去参加新四军，五哥说他的理想是做一名救死扶伤的医生，对革命并不感兴趣。三妹恨恨的瞪了五哥一眼竟自去征兵处报了名。三妹穿着军装回到家来，令全家上下万分震惊。郭老板大骂大妹看不住她，答应她出去一会就惹出这么大的乱子来。郭老板跑去给八路征兵干部下跪，征兵干部同意不带走三妹。
