袁承志通过太白双英的线索，抓到了满清奸细洪胜海。洪胜海之所以到关外当了汉奸，主要是因为要躲避孙敏君的追杀——洪胜海的弟兄喜欢孙敏君主动示爱，却被孙敏君割掉耳朵。洪胜海为兄弟出头，将她强行绑架，但是归二娘赶来，救下孙敏君，二人大开杀戒，把在场的十几个人杀个精光。洪胜海侥幸逃脱，但是始终逃脱不掉她们的追杀。为了活命，洪胜海才远走关外，当了汉奸。袁承志告诉洪胜海，只要他肯痛改前非，担保为他向归二娘和孙敏君解释，毕竟她们杀人太多，早已大大超过了“惩治”的尺度。洪胜海感激涕零，成为袁承志的亲随。南京城内，孙敏君遇到洪胜海，一路追杀，袁承志出面干预，试图开解。孙敏君不依不饶，还要杀洪胜海。袁承志也动了火气，出手教训孙敏君，并折断了她的长剑。归辛树夫妇到了南京，孙敏君和梅剑和告状。本来，袁承志给焦公礼解围之时，就教训了梅剑和与孙敏君，这次为了洪胜海而折断孙敏君的长剑，更让归辛树夫妇大为恼怒。袁承志主持正义，为洪胜海出头，再次得罪了师兄师嫂。归辛树不明就里，和袁承志翻脸，并约战于雨花台。袁承志无奈，只好答应。洪胜海感激袁承志对自己的保护，死心塌地，献出了收藏隐秘的密信——满清皇太极勾结大太监曹化淳的证据！青青打赌获胜，袁承志得到大功坊旧宅，大喜。雨花台，出示密信，再次试图替洪胜海开脱，但是归辛树依然认准洪胜海不可能真心悔改。袁承志和归辛树大战。归辛树功力深厚，袁承志兼通金蛇秘籍，双方势均力敌。但是孙敏君却对青青痛下杀手，袁承志无法分心兼顾…关键时刻，穆人清和黄真来到，出面化解误会。穆人清表扬袁承志，批评归辛树，惩治孙敏君。华山派三代聚齐，定下帮助闯王的方针…
