赵颀的大老婆让凤姐劝说珍珠，凤姐自知此事麻烦，随将这等烦心事交给莳儿。萧玉馆内，珍珠告诉颦颦，老祖宗之所以会留出钱用于宝芹婚事，那是担心颦颦没有嫁妆，这更让颦颦想起老祖宗的好，唏嘘不止。说话间，莳儿进门，将大老爷要纳珍珠为妾的事告之，珍珠悲愤交加。赵颀听说珍珠激烈反抗，很是恼火，为了“修理”珍珠，派人将她抓走关起来。赵頫虽气愤老太太尸骨未寒，赵颀如此荒唐，可怎奈王夫人却是赞同这门婚事，只能作罢。颦颦、宝芹同情珍珠的遭遇，宝芹决定去郑家庄镖局找人劫走珍珠。雷雨交加，珍珠跳窗而逃，跑到赵母停灵的铁槛寺，在老祖宗的灵柩前上吊。幸好颦颦、宝芹、永琛及时赶到，永琛挥剑斩断白绫，珍珠获救。永琛想出一个“假死”的计谋，珍珠也愿陪侍赵頫夫妇和宝芹扶柩南下，看守赵家祖陵和祭田。于是用“掉包计”安排了一场“假死”，让赵颀亲眼“看到”珍珠“死”了。宝芹即将陪侍父亲，扶赵母灵柩南下，来与颦颦告别。宝芹纠结薛姨妈对自己的冷淡，颦颦则笑讽其实是芜君在生他的气，宝芹更慌了神，颦颦嗔怒，慨叹宝芹胡思乱想。
