担任中国老年痴呆及相关障碍协会副主席；曾任北京大学精神卫生研究所所长；中国医师协会精神科医师分会主任委员；中华医学会精神病学分会委员；中华医院管理学会精神病院管理分会副主任委员；中华精神科杂志常委编委；中国老年痴呆及相关障碍协会副主席；国际老年精神病学会理事；卫生部精神科主治医师考试委员会副主任委员；WHO/北京精神卫生研究和培训协作中心主任。《中国心理卫生杂志》主主编；《中华精神科杂志》常务编委；“International Psychogeriatrics”杂志编委。

科研成果

从事的主要研究工作为老年期精神障碍、精神药理和物质依赖，在国内外杂志上发表论文35篇，参加8部教科书、参考书编写和5部精神科工具书的编译工作。另外，数年来积极参与国家精神卫生政策、立法、服务模式转型、健康教育、对外交流等重要工作。在老年期痴呆，老年期精神病和老年期抑郁症方面都有相应的研究成果。同时在酒药依赖和精神病早期干预方面也有比较深入的研究。曾作为课题成员获得卫生部科技成果三等奖。获得科技部科技攻关项目资助、教育部“985”课题、科技部支撑计划和“211”项目资助在老年痴呆、老年期精神分裂症、精神病早期干预方面进行研究。在国内外发表论文40多篇，主编并参与了四种精神病学教科书和参考书的编写。
