为了配合袁天杰取得樱子的信任，何成休设计了让日本兵袭击火神庙，为此，老杨、何成休和旱天雷化妆成日本兵，到日本人的洗浴场所甘露寺打死几名日本兵，又把尸体穿上中国人的衣服摆在火神庙里，造成日本人来袭打死中共人员的假象。为了证实袁天杰是不是真的投靠日本人，原冢给袁天杰身上捆上炸药，让他走在队伍前面，试探中共敢不敢开枪，如果中共不敢向袁天杰射击，他就有可能是假投靠。这一手确实让老杨很为难，如果不打死“叛徒”袁天杰，他就有暴露的可能，原冢押着袁天杰越走越近，关键时刻林霄发现炸药是假的，马上开枪射击，配合袁天杰把戏做足，使樱子解除一些对袁天杰身份的怀疑。樱子任命袁天杰到国立中学当校长，也是更进一步考验袁天杰，并在任命仪式上让袁天杰执行枪毙反抗日本占领军的社会名流，会场上旱天雷挥起鞭子替袁天杰解围，顿时现场大乱，何成休首先打掉了躲藏在楼里的日本阻击手，老杨带领游击队员冲入会场救人，交火中旱天雷受伤被俘，樱子为了考验袁天杰，命他开枪打死旱天雷，袁天杰非常为难，为了不使袁天杰暴露身份，在旱天雷的催促下袁天杰朝肺部开了一枪，旱天雷昏死过去。舒秀发现旱天雷没有撤出来，就返身去救，从中岛手里抢回了旱天雷。为了给旱天雷治伤，在陈亦雄的安排下，中共在车站刺杀了日本驻江南长官浦田一矢，准备再用浦田的特别通行证冒名顶替去医院给旱天雷动手术，不料在刺杀中受伤的浦田挣扎着逃跑了。
